Classic Romance at CHIJMES Hall: Benjamin & Charlotte’s Elegantly Timeless Wedding

CHIJMES is just one of those venues that never gets old. The Gothic architecture, the massive high ceilings, the historic stained glass—it’s iconic for a reason. Documenting Benjamin and Charlotte's wedding day here was a fantastic reminder of why I love what I do.

Honestly, after hitting the decade mark of shooting weddings, my philosophy behind the lens has really distilled down to one thing: keeping it timeless. It is always tempting to jump on whatever photography trend is currently blowing up on social media feeds, but a space as grand as CHIJMES deserves an elegant touch that won't look dated twenty years down the road. Luckily, Benjamin and Charlotte wanted that exact same classic, true-to-life feel for their memories.

Here is a little glimpse into how their beautiful day at CHIJMES Hall unfolded.

The Holy Matrimony: Vows Beneath the Stained Glass

We kicked off the morning inside the main hall for the Holy Matrimony. The way the early light hits those historic stained-glass windows is incredible—it just bathes the entire aisle in this soft, clean glow.

Charlotte looked absolutely stunning walking down to a very emotional Benjamin. My favorite part of documentary-style wedding photography is just letting the moments breathe. There were no forced poses here; instead, I focused on capturing the quiet glances, the tight hand-squeezes, and the teary eyes in the pews. The sheer scale of the hall gave the photos a grand, epic feel while keeping the emotional focus entirely on their vows.

A Warm, Traditional Tea Ceremony

Right after the service, we shifted gears for the traditional tea ceremony. I always love this part of the day because the energy changes completely. It goes from the grand solemnity of the chapel to this deeply personal, warm family space.

We found a beautifully lit spot within the venue for Benjamin and Charlotte to pay respects to their parents and elders. The room was immediately filled with bursts of laughter, heartfelt blessings, and a few emotional hugs. My approach here is always to step back and blend into the background, capturing those genuine smiles and family interactions without interrupting the natural flow of the moment.

The Lunch Banquet: Good Food and Endless Laughter

Then came the lunch banquet back in the main hall, and the energy was brilliant. The classic white columns and simple, elegant floral setups looked incredibly classy under the chandeliers.

From their grand second entrance to the heartfelt table toasts, the room was buzzing. Instead of setting up rigid, overly technical lighting that breaks the atmosphere, I spent the afternoon hunting for candid moments—clinking glasses, big laughs during the speeches, and those quiet, stolen seconds where Ben and Charlotte just looked at each other amidst all the happy chaos.

The Couple Shoot: Clean Lines & Architectural Romance

Before wrapping up for the day, we slipped outside into the courtyards and cloister walls of CHIJMES for some quick couple portraits.

The afternoon sun had softened up perfectly, throwing beautiful, graphic shadows along those neo-classical corridors. CHIJMES is basically a playground if you love clean lines and classic architecture; it genuinely feels like you've stepped into a European courtyard right in the middle of downtown Singapore.

Benjamin and Charlotte were so relaxed by this point. We kept things moving naturally—just walking through the archways, sharing a laugh on the lawn, and letting the wind catch Charlotte’s veil. This is exactly why I stick to clean, true-to-life editing; it preserves the real tones of the architecture and the outfits exactly as they were.
